It started with a walk from the Wright ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Building to the Musical Arts Center and ended with undergraduate and graduate IU School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students celebrating their newly-earned degrees at this year’s Spring Convocation.
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø 150 undergraduate and 250 graduate students were awarded their degrees at the ceremony Saturday evening. The event began with nearly 40 faculty members cheering the graduates as they left the Wright building and were led by faculty marshals Executive Associate Dean Vasti Torres and Master's Program Coordinator Danielle DeSawal to the MAC.
Speakers at Convocation included alumni speaker Pete Goldsmith, Vice Provost of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at IU from 2009 to 2016, graduate student speaker Charmian Lam, graduating with a Ph.D. in Higher ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and undergraduate speaker Shauntell Harris, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
Each student was individually recognized and presented with a 100th anniversary of the School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø commemorative medal as they crossed the stage.
One of the most poignant moments of the ceremony was when Dean Anastasia Morrone and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies Sarah Lubienski awarded a posthumous Ed.D. degree to Raymond Kennedy. His son Shannon was hooded in his place.
