Major Change to School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

Students considering changing their major to a School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø program should be aware of the following:

  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø programs require approximately 110-120 required course credit hours to complete.
  • All ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø programs include 3-5 semesters of Professional Block enrollment as part of the Teacher ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Program (TEP).
  • Admission to the TEP requires up to 30 credit hours of prerequisite coursework and a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Students beginning a School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø major should generally plan for 3-4 years to complete the degree, depending on previously completed coursework and program requirements.

Students are encouraged to consider these requirements and the time needed to complete the program when deciding whether to change their major to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.


Major Change Requirements

  • Step 1: Complete the .
  • Step 2: A School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø academic advisor will contact you to schedule an appointment.
  • Step 3: Meet with an academic advisor to review degree requirements.
  • Step 4: Enroll in degree applicable coursework:
    • EDUC-G 203 Communication for Youth Serving Professional
      or EDUC-W 200 Teaching with Technology
    • EDUC-F 110 Windows on ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø
    • Additional coursework recommended by a School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø academic advisor
  • Step 5: Once you have enrolled in the recommended degree-applicable coursework, complete the major change form provided by your School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø academic advisor.

GPA Requirements

A student with no IU GPA (typically a first semester IU student) does not have a GPA requirement to be admitted to the School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.

Students with an IU GPA need to meet one of the following options:

  • IU cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
  • If your cumulative GPA is below 2.5, you must meet the following GPA criteria for major change consideration:

Admission to the Teacher ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Program (TEP)

After completing the program-specific prerequisite courses and GPA requirements, students may be admitted to the Teacher ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Program (TEP) which leads to licensure. Please review TEP prerequisite requirements along with other program-specific requirements in the according to your first term of enrollment at IU and major.
