As students return to the Wright building, they’ll notice Room 2002 has become the Student Center, a place where they can connect, find support, prepare for their futures, and thrive. The Center is intended to serve all students at the entire IU School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, both undergraduate and graduate, recognizing that everyone may have different needs and ways of engaging throughout their educational experiences.
After forming a task force and most importantly gathering feedback from students, it was clear they wanted a place to be able to get information, access resources, hold student group meetings, and just relax. The Student Center, said Associate Professor Kathryn Engebretson, is a central hub where all that can happen alongside longstanding traditions that are valued in the School of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, like celebrating heritage months, partnering with cultural centers on campus, and hosting events: “It will be a place where students can do everything from finding a paper clip or a band-aid to mental health and food pantry resources to meeting with student groups and volunteering to help host events.”
While renovations will continue throughout the semester, the Student Center remains open and active, with events and programs planned throughout the fall. Students can visit the center to connect with campus resources, explore social opportunities, and access career services.
The Student Center’s grand opening will take place Thursday, September 3, from 10 am – 2 pm. Students can enjoy free swag and activities, and pizza will be served at 12:30 pm.
