Learn how to effectively educate and support K-12 students with reading difficulties and disabilities, including dyslexia and specific learning disabilities.
This online, 9-credit hour program explores the latest scientific research in reading and literacy, including best practices for the identification, assessment, and intervention of reading difficulties and disabilities. It is intended for:
Teachers, administrators, school psychologists, and other school-based professionals (e.g., speech-language pathologists, literacy coaches, reading specialists)
IU graduate students in initial licensure, license addition, or degree-granting programs (e.g., M.S.Ed., Ed.S., Ed.D., Ph.D.)
Important note: This graduate certificate does not lead to initial teacher licensure.

The Graduate Studies Office will accept unofficial transcripts and self-reported test scores for admission reviews. Any admission made with these documents would be conditioned on receipt of official documents, which should be provided as soon as possible.
If you are currently enrolled or have applied in the past year, you are eligible for a reduced application fee of $35.

Beginning with the Spring 2027 Dyslexia Certificate Cohort, candidates will be required to take the KPEERI exam (Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction) administered by the Center for Effective Reading Instructions (CERI) as a mandatory, culminating program completion requirement. Candidates are eligible to register and sit for the exam during their final semester of coursework or immediately upon finishing the three-course sequence.
Official certificate conferral is placed on administrative hold until the candidate submits their official KPEERI score report demonstrating a passing score to the Program Coordinator of the IUB Dyslexia Certificate Program. Once the passing score report is verified and all academic requirements are met, the institutional Dyslexia Certificate will be awarded.
