Ed.D. in Literacy, Culture, and Language ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (Online)

Advance Literacy. Empower Learners. Lead Change.

Deepen your expertise in literacy, culture, and language, and use research to improve learning in the communities you serve.

You see how literacy, language, culture, and identity shape learners’ opportunities every day. IU’s fully online Ed.D. helps you investigate challenges in your work, apply evidence, and lead change without stepping away from your career.

Program Essentials

Built for working professionals

The 60-credit program is fully online and designed for working professionals. Most students complete the program, including their dissertation, in 3.5 years.

You may also be able to transfer up to 18 eligible graduate credits earned outside your previous master’s degree, subject to faculty advisor approval.

Earn your doctorate with a cohort

Learn alongside experienced professionals who share your commitment to literacy and language education. Your cohort offers opportunities to exchange ideas across settings and build lasting professional relationships.

You’ll also work with nationally and internationally recognized faculty whose scholarship spans literacy, culture, and language education. They’ll help you connect research to your professional questions and goals.

Research a Challenge That Matters to You

Study a problem of practice in your setting, whether it involves literacy instruction, multilingual learning, curriculum, professional learning, or community-based programs.

Through coursework and doctoral research, you’ll learn to evaluate evidence, conduct applied research, and use your findings to strengthen teaching, learning, programs, and decisions.

Expand your impact
